Pastor, Priest and Rector: The Rev. Jenny Sharp

Bright, articulate and passionate! Meet Rev'd Jenny, our Rector and Priest since

March 16th 2016.

Reverend Jenny comes to us from her last post in Summerside PEI where she was rector for four years. The parish flourished under her lead and they were saddened to see her leave. Before that posting, she was the rector in Bright's Grove Ontario at the beautiful Lakeshore Parish.  Jenny was awarded a B.A. in Psychology from Laurentian University and her Master of Divinity from Huron University College.

Rev Cheryl Rafuse

Rev Cheryl Rafuse and husband Mike RafusecherylrCheryl Rafuse in the picture on the left (and in the photo on right with her late husband, Mike Rafuse), was ordained as Vocational  Deacon, on Monday, January 26th, 2009, at St Timothy's Anglican Church in Hatchet Lake, NS. A deacon has a special ministry of servanthood, particularly for the poor, the weak, the sick and the  lonely, interpreting to the Church the needs of the world. Cheryl has many spiritual gifts, including  coordinator of Baptismal preparation, pastoral visiting and worship leadership.  She's also the chair of our Pastoral Ministries Committee. Parish Deacon Rev. Cheryl Rafuse is a vital part of the ministry team at St. Timothy's and St. Paul's.

Deacon: Diocesan Hospital Visitor
Rev. Cheryl has been asked by Diocesan Bishop Sue Moxley to be an official Hospital Pastoral Visitor on behalf of the Diocese.  She and another deacon were interviewed, screened, attended a number of meetings with the task force and the hospital, and then both were approved by Diocesan Council at the June 8th meeting. A year ago the Diocese called together a task force through the Bishops and Diocesan Council to do a six month pilot project for hospital visiting in assistance to the hospital chaplain.  This service will be offered at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, VG site and the Halifax Infirmary and is available to anglican patients who are in hospital from away, ie, Cape Breton, PEI, Yarmouth, etc.  This does not interfere in any way with visits for patients from local HRM parishes.  Rev. Cheryl and her colleague are being granted a special ministry license by the Bishop.  They work under the supervision of the Anlgican Hospital Chaplain.  This ministry's regular schedule will be one day a week, with parking expenses and travel costs covered by the Diocese.  We can be very proud of the affirmation of our Parish Deacon's call, qualifications and respect by the wider Anglican community.   Congratulations Rev. Cheryl  Smile

Lay Ministers and Other Ministers

Lay Readers and Other Ministers

We have six faithful members as Licensed Lay Readers in our Parish. At St. Timothy’s they are: Linda Joyce, Sheri Gallivan, Brent Chezenko and Jennifer Warren. At St. Paul’s they are: Judi Eld and Trudy Cole. This ministry has a particular and historic pattern of service within the Anglican Church. Sometimes Lay Readers do the same activities as other members, for example publicly reading the scriptures or leading the Prayers of the People. Sometimes they do some of the same activities that clergy do, like preaching or planning and conducting a worship service. Primarily, Licensed Lay Readers function as worship leaders. They serve the church by assisting in and/or conducting services of worship under the direction of a priest. They may also be assigned secondary functions in pastoral care, teaching and administrative duties. Diocesan Bishop Ron Cutler licences Lay Readers for this office.

We are also blessed to have many fine acolytes (adult servers), a few youth servers and Eucharistic Ministers (licensed).

Parish Spotlight!

Vocational Process for Sheri Gallivan

UPDATE!  Vocational Process for Sheri Gallivan
Sheri Gallivan is discerning a call to be an Associate Priest in our Parish. This week she was declared officially as a “postulant”. A postulant is a person who has been accepted by the bishop as a candidate for ordination, and is in the process of being trained. On June 14th Rev. Bert Chestnut,
the coordinator, spoke about this prayerful process for Sheri and our congregations (see Parish website for the sermon audio link www.stsp.ca). Over the next while Sheri will continue her studies at Atlantic  School of Theology and move forward in her discernment. Congratulations to Sheri and her family!
